Old VS New

7 min read

I was tagged by mupaa to do a compare past and present, publicly, to myself. Oh boy, oh boy.

OLD YOU VS. NEW YOU!
Answer these questions honestly to see how you’ve developed over a few years!

FEEL FREE TO STEAL THIS MEME!

Bunny Emoji-68 (Bouncy) [V4]

First questions are over age 10-14! (Old you.)

What name did you go by?:
Jacobs6Geno. My old buddy's nickname was generals, after the Command and Conquer game. We tried inputting the name "Jacobs & Generals" into the playername field, but ended up having to weirdly abbreviate it.
Real name's Jaka, pronounced as Ya-kah, if you're interested.

Gender Identification?:
Boy.

Sexuality?:
Straight. Practically obsessed with girls, believed them to be pretty and mysterious.

What was your Fursona (give us a picture!)?:
No fursona found. Had an imaginary me - my personality was an intruder AI built by a government organization of that universe, made to usurp the body of the most powerful mage on that planet. Main character complex - check.

Hobbies?:
Gaming. Started with DOOM II at age four. Secretly writing romance fanfiction. Drawing, but only when I was younger.

Personality?:
In love every f**** month. All the goddamn time. Constantly had someone on my mind, making my heart race. Yes, it sounds so awfully cheesy, but such is life. I sucked up to ALL the teachers and tried to show everyone how smart I was. No, I wasn't a popular kid, but I did keep very diplomatic relations with everyone, and I had a few (usually one) very good friends around me.

Favorite food?:

Spinach and mashed potatoes alla gran. I mean, she'd call it spinach, but it was mixed nettles and chard. Weird but delicious.

Who was your best friend?:

Goes by the handle of GexideL nowadays, wouldn't like me mentioning his name on DeviantArt, but eh, what can you do. Videogames were our life and we were practically joined at the hip. Loved those times. He played the synth and I sung, we performed as a part of his music school a few times.

What did you usually wear?
Hoodie/sweater and pants, the latter usually dark. When I felt really fancy, I wore an opened button-up shirt with a cool T underneath.

Did you have any pets? If so, what were they?:
Nope.

Did you have a DeviantArt?:
Nope, I don't believe so.

If not…Why didn’t you?:
I only read a few fanfics here over the years, but generally my group of friends always looked at it sideways, so I stayed away. I've only had my views change recently.

When did you first make your DeviantArt?:
Very recently.

Any other interesting info on yourself back then?:
Had quite a thing for showmanship. You'd usually find me in some school play or another, doing god knows what. I once (quite successfully) portrayed a disappointed dumpster lecturing a young child about recycling. I also loved reading, memorized the pages where the main characters kissed by heart, still know the page where Lyra and Will (His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, my favorite books) share their kiss.

Next questions are over age 15-17+! (Whatever your age now; new you.)

What name do you go by?:
This barred container holding poison? CageVenom they call me. At least they would, if I had any friends. The real name stayed the same.

Gender Identification?:
Male.

Sexuality?:
Straight.

What’s your Fursona (give us a picture!)?:

None.

Hobbies?:

Video games, they stuck. I like writing, too. I watch quite a bit of anime, and still love to read.

Personality?:

Talkative, almost to the point of being obnoxious, but perhaps not in the usual sense. My mind's filled with information like the amount of jam that sunk with the Titanic etc., and I constantly feel like I've got to share it with everyone. Still quite theatrical, though nothing like before. Age tames you, I guess. I try my best to be kind and understanding to others, I feel like it's really important.

Favorite food?:

I make wicked tortillas, other than that, I have an awful sweet tooth and an unhealty affection towards junk food.

Who’s your best friend?:
:iconmupaa:
Childhood sweetheart. Always had an eye out for her, but took me twenty years to come around and start an actual relationship with her. We get up to all kinds of silly things, it's very good fun.

Other than that, I've my bro Tomy, we once tried to start up a company that would send you explicit hentai pics with mediocre humor in short comments every morning. That's how you know we're cool.

What do you usually wear?:

Hoodie/sweater and pants, the latter usually dark. When I feel really fancy, I wear an opened button-up shirt with a cool T underneath.

Do you have any pets? If so, what are they?:

Two cats, Iška and Mirna. One is a dumbass, the other is a munchkin, respectively. Love them both, tho, even when they decide that my keyboard is THE place to be.

Any other interesting info on yourself now?:

I'm such a hungry boy. My creepypasta, As Her Air Ran Out, got narrated by the awesome Dr Creepen on Youtube.

REFLECTION TIME!

How much have you changed between these years?:
My thinking's progressed quite a bit, but life has a way of feeling samey overall.

Are you happy with the changes?:
Can't say no. I've managed to surround myself with excellent people, that sort of outweighs everything else.

Is there anything you wish you could go back to and change?:
But wouldn't that mess with the space-time continuum?

Seriously, sparing myself and some others a bit of pain isn't worth changing timelines for. We'll make do, don't worry.

Which part of your life did you like more; old or new?:

I couldn't say. I think that it's always felt the same, I just romanticize the past through the prism of memory. The present is here, though, and quite malleable at that, so I guess I kinda like it a bit more.

Was this meme interesting (>:3c)?:

Yup.

TAG SOME PEOPLE!:

Killing it right here, boss! Don't have friends on this site yet, but if you read this and came so far (well, congrats), you can make one and comment it here or send it to me! Yay! Much love, have a nice day.

Ayy, let's do this.

Some fine examples of what I do

I'll write:

-  The usual, of course. I don't really mind the genre, especially not if it's romance, horror or slice of life.

-  Sexually explicit stuff (to address the elephant in the room). As far as gender and sexuality is concerned, anything goes.

-  Reader inserts

-  OCs *

-  POVs

* I'll have a little section dedicated to this in a jiff, just you see.

I won't write:

-  Stuff that goes against the rules of DeviantArt and Fanfiction.net

-  Other dodgy stuff like explicit depictions of minors.

-  About characters whose authors don't permit that.

I'll hang on to the right to say no to just about anything to be safe. Also, by commissioning a fic containing material only appropriate for a certain age group, you are stating your age as appropriate for such material.

Regarding fandoms:

If you don't find your thing on the list, make sure to ask. I couldn't remember all the ones that I know if I tried, and even then I might be interested finding a new one. I've done my homework on:

Teen Titans

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Naruto

Fullmetal Alchemist

Death Note

Attack on Titan

Code Geass

Hellsing

Gintama

Assassination Classroom

Love Hina

(+bunch of other anime)

Harry Potter

LotR/Hobbit

Sherlock Holmes

His Dark Materials

Undertale

Mass Effect

League of Legends

Again, relax. This is by no means an exhaustive list. Just drop me a IM and ask about the missing stuff, it's free.

How to commission:

1. Make sure it doesn't conflict with any of the Do-s and Don't-s in the above sections, especially with the author permissions. Copyright issues lead to lawsuits which lead to poverty. Let's not try our luck.

2. Gimme a quick holler if I have any free spots for commissions and if I do your fandom.

3. Tell me how you'd like to receive the fic. Do you want a .docx or .txt file, a google docs document...? Do you want it emailed, or shared via Drive or Dropbox? My fanfiction gets posted to Fanfiction.net, so if you don't want that, make sure you voice that. You may not, under any circumstances, sell my work in any way shape or form. If you post it anywhere else, I'd ask you to mention my name. Apart from that and as long as you're not violating any laws or rules, you may do with it what you like.

4. Give me the specifics. From the universe, to the genre, the characters, and as detailed as you'd like. You can list plot devices, twists, even jokes and common tropes, whatever tickles your fancy. You can also list stuff you don't want in there, obviously. Otherwise, liberties will be taken.

The wonderful world of OCs:

If you wanna add your OC to another universe:

Make sure you know your OC VERY closely. Before you even ask me, ask yourself; why is my OC interesting and different? What can others learn from them and what can they learn from others? Do they play a vital role in the story, and in what way? If you can easily answer all of those questions, then send it over.

If you want a story exclusively about your OC(s):

I’ll need a whole load of info about the characters and the universe they’re in. Write down anything and everything you’ve got, especially important details (a friend of mine once did an art competition where she drew two witches, one was holding her hat in her hand. She finished it, only to be told that those characters die if their hats are taken off.)

If you want me to flesh out the backstory of your OC (OC biography):

Tell me what you do know about your character. Make sure to put down no-no’s (eg. they don’t steal, murder, like bathing in marmite…) I’ll send you something like a CV, which you can review, before I get down to writing.

Information on prices:

€5 - for anything up to 750 words.

€10 - per 1000 words, up to 10 000 words.

For stories longer than 10k, it's a case to case basis.

You can also specify if you want to split up the story into chapters, or have it all in one whopping go. If you want a collection of short stories, they won't count as separate stories, but will instead be priced as if they were one whole.

Schedules and payment:

In case you need your story to be finished on a specific date, make sure you tell me early enough. If it's a shorter story below 3k words, I can probably get it out on a three-days' notice. A 10k words long story takes about a month to fully realize, so keep that in mind. More time is typically better than less as a general rule.

- For <3k stories, I'll take payment up front and you get the finished product.

- For 3k to 5k stories, I'll also take payment up front, but I'll send you a draft and a sample, so that we can work out some more details.

- Above 5k, I'll take half up front, send you the draft and the sample. Send the other half AFTER we've talked out all of the details.

Payment is handled exclusively via Paypal. Use Paypal's currency converter to turn your payment into EUR, then send it. Name it "From Santa to Cage" or something, just don't use the word "commission" in the title.

Miscellaneous:

If you have any comments, questions or ponderings about my work at all, feel free to either send me a note, or mail me at cagevenom@gmail.com. I'm in the CET timezone, so if I'm not answering, chances are it's the middle of the night over here or something. Sit tight and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

So, quick recap of the info you've gotta give me when commissioning yours truly:

-  Fandom/Universe (if it's a fanfic)

-  Genre

-  Main characters and character details (including OCs and desired pairings, if any)

Story (ranging in detail from just a general plot direction to a detailed outline of events)

 Approximate length

-  Rating (Using Fictionratings aka. Fanfiction.net's rating system. Any explicit content is an automatic M or higher.)

Final word:

Whew! We've made it this far. If by now you still have questions which need answering, don't think twice about asking. Have fun commissioning and have a wonderful day.
